2. The Grand Concourse has the most Art Deco buildings in the country

Often called the “Park Avenue of the Bronx," the Grand Concourse was designed after the Champs Élysées in Paris, France. The art deco style exploded in the 1930s when a housing boom occurred along the Concourse.

3. Batman was born in the Bronx

That is correct. Batman was born in The Bronx by cartoonist Bob Kane when he was working out of his parents’ home. Bill Finger, who is also from the Bronx, also worked on Batman's creation. Both men went to DeWitt Clinton High School.

8. The Bronx is the birthplace of Hip Hop

Hip hop began in DJ Kook Herc's home in the West Bronx. He worked on combining Jamaican and American soul and funk. His style grew and became well known, inspiring other Bronx musicians including Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaattaa. The nickname "Boogie Down Bronx" comes from the name of an album by Man Parish that came out in the 1980s.

9. Woodlawn Cemetery is the final resting place for many famous people

Woodlawn Cemetery is the final resting place for many household names, including Rowland H. Macy (founder of Macy’s department stores), James Cash Penney (founder of JC Penney department stores), legendary latin artist Celia Cruz, Frank Winfield Woolworth (founder of Woolworth department stores), composer Irving Berlin, author Herman Melville, jazz musicians Duke Ellington and Miles Davis. The cemetery also includes a memorial to the Titanic disaster in 1912.

10. The Bronx was once part of Westchester County

The first town established in Westchester County was the area east of the Bronx river. The towns to the west of the Bronx River became part of NYC in 1874 and the towns to the east of the Bronx river became part of NYC in 1898.
